Introduction –

My coffee fast started without too much thought now I’ve gone 60 days without coffee.

Sixty days!!!

As someone who used to start her mornings with freshly home-brewed coffee, this has been nothing short of transformative. It was meant to be a 30-day coffee fast to reset my system and break what I started recognizing as an addiction. Then it continued for 60 days and I am pushing it for another 30 days before I decide next steps. Here’s how I got here, why I chose to embark on this journey, and what I’ve learned about detoxing and reclaiming balance.

How Coffee Crept Into My Lifegd

Like most people, I started drinking coffee for an energy boost but also out of curiosity. Over time, coffee became a ritual. A morning cup to wake up, an afternoon cup to push through deadlines, and sometimes an evening cup because I loved the aroma and taste. Soon, coffee turned from a simple pleasure into a crutch.

Coffee offered a sense of normalcy, from grinding my beans to the rituals of turning coffee beans into a beverage. I was always locked in and committed to the process. Then one day, it hit me: I was dependent. Coffee wasn’t just something I enjoyed anymore—it was something I needed.

The Decision to Take a Break

The idea of going without coffee scared me, which is why I knew I had to do it. I wanted to explore how it would feel without caffeine coursing through my veins. More importantly, I wanted to detox. I had read about the effects of caffeine on the body—how it can spike cortisol levels, disrupt sleep, and create a cycle of dependency. I wanted to see if stepping away from coffee would help me break free from that cycle.

The First Few Days

The first week was meh. I was expecting some physical manifestations of the sudden change—they say caffeine withdrawal is real. I was to expect headaches and feel lethargic. My mood was supposed to be all over the place. The main thing I noticed in my mornings was that my brain was reaching for the ritual of brewing coffee from scratch. A little reminder that I was on a coffee fast was all my system needed to realign itself.

By the next week, I started trying teas like herbal teas. I also increased my water intake and committed to yoga and deep breathing for my morning energy boost. These small shifts helped me ease into a new routine, where coffee wasn’t the center of my day.

The Benefits of a Coffee Detox

By week two, something amazing started to happen: I felt clearer. The fog I used to chase away with coffee had lifted on its own. My energy levels stabilized—I no longer had that mid-afternoon crash. My sleep improved, too. Without caffeine lingering in my system, I was falling asleep faster and waking up feeling rested.

Aside from the physical benefits, I noticed a shift in my mindset. I realized how much of my life revolved around coffee—thinking about it, making it, drinking it. By stepping away, I reclaimed that space. I could still function, and thrive without relying on caffeine.

Why A Coffee Fast Matters

Our bodies are incredible machines designed to balance and heal themselves, but they can only do so when we give them the chance. Regularly detoxing—whether from coffee, sugar, or other substances—allows your body to reset and function at its best.

For me, the coffee fast wasn’t just about breaking an addiction. It was about giving my body and mind a break, listening to what they needed, and finding a healthy path. For some people, detoxing can be uncomfortable at first, but the rewards are worth it: clarity, balance, and the knowledge that you’re not dependent on anything external to feel good.

Moving Forward

So far I haven’t drank coffee in 60 days. What started as a 30-day coffee fast is not over 60 days and I haven’t thought about when or if I’d get back to drinking coffee. I still love the smell and the ritual of it though. If/when I decide to reintroduce it, it will be because I want it, not because I need it to function. This experience has taught me the importance of mindfulness, balance, and the occasional reset.

If you’ve been thinking about taking a break from coffee or detoxing from something else in your life, I encourage you to try it. It’s not easy, but it’s eye-opening and empowering. Sometimes, the hardest habits to break teach us the most about ourselves.

I’m enjoying the clarity and freedom that comes with being caffeine-free.

I will enjoy the energy that comes with being caffeine-driven soon.

Here’s to the journey of reclaiming balance, one mindful choice at a time.
